Sunday – party time!

A lovely sunny start and we hope it holds for the day as getting 30 odd people indoors and sitting for lunch may be a squeeze too far! This is an annual lunch hosted alternatively by Rotary and Inner Wheel leaders for their Executive committees.

As it happened the days stayed hot until late pm when our friends had all left – phew!

A lovely day with great food and fellowship – just so good to see everyone enjoying a relaxing day with us . The garden looked superb[even though I say so myself!]

Home most of the day preparing for tomorrow’s lunch with the District Executive and Inner Wheel Executive. Collected tables and chairs, did some shopping  and finished off tidying the garden. A lovely sunny day and plenty of time outdoors

Off to Mendip Presidents night in the eveing hosted of course by President Alan and we sat with Inner Wheel President Sue and AG Bob Acland, A really enjoyable evening of fellowship with entertainment which I can only describe as ” interesting”. Good to see Presidents Ric, Bernard there to

Lovely flowers from the club to Linda too.

Friday – no grandchildren today!

So a more relaxing day watching the opening of the World cup and the very enjoyable first game.

June 10th

A working day for me with two clients in the afternoon. morning spent on email early and late and eventually catching up on Ashes to Ashes – only two more to see now!!

Good to see KBJ joining the Membership Task force. I  dealt with a couple of club issues today around style and approach – no more to be said but it is a really strong belief of mine that the president preside and the club decides. Why don people talk to each other first before springing surprises – it’s a basic element of change management, isn’t it?

The clubs responses to Thanks for Life 2010 are very interesting and I wonder how many Presidents  know they can commit small sums without a full Club council meeting!

Finally got a download that worked to install all the World Cup fixtures on the phone diary

Wednesday – Kids Out

a highlight of any Rotarian’s year and this was no different to all the others we have attended. A few issues on the way – we did not get the email about the road closure so had to double back and arrived later than planned. Then we got directed to the Safari Park which was full and to top it all the lions got close to the gates so the whole place was locked down. Eventually we got to the main house around 11.30 an hour after arrived at the gates!

Great day though with over 1000 kids there and dozens of Rotarians. Too many pictures to post here but they are on Facebook. Mike Swanson took photos of me for the Circa mag but Linda took a couple too . We even met the former Mayor of Bath Colin  who has appeared so often this year!

A terrific day superbly organised by the club members of Bath West Frome and Frome Selwood. Other districts took part too including D1100 and D1110 and I even saw someone from D1070!

Home around 4 pm – exhausted

Tuesday – club meeting – AGM or was it?

Painting the fences in between showers so it took twice as long as it should!

Todays emails covers Olympics 2012 – Rotary involvement in Weymouth, District Training Team and feedback from Assembly, Kids Out, Matching Grant.

Hugo has arrived safely in Santiago Chile – unfortunately his luggage arrived safely in Hong Kong!

DGs going to Montreal are making a list of hotels and arranging a meet for beer and food!

Evening meeting at my own club , listed as AGM but turned out to be a presentation by two Indian Teachers on an exchange at Chewton Mendip School. Excellent presentation and maybe a chance to get involved with Youth Speaks too as they are keen to develop Public Speaking  for the children

Monday –

day in the garden in between showers.

Rotary emails are now beginning to slacken off although I am doing a heck of a lot of chasing. Why don’t people reply to simple messages?? Prepared agenda for next weeks Governors meeting and went though all the papers for our trip to the RI Convention next week in Montreal. Looking forward to seeing a few old friends too as well as most of the DG s 2009/10. A small contingent from D1200 will be there too.

Latest figures from RIBI for Thanks for Life bear no resemblance to those we know about!

Sunday June 6th more GC!

woke ealry with a slight hangover – it ws a good party last night!

More General Council all morning ending atround 12 45 for lunch with the partners who had been to the Fowler’s house for coffee. At the end of the Council meeting we all gathered outside and presented David with a tree which was planted in the grounds of the RIBI offices.

We will meet almost the entire team in Montreal in two weeks time

Drove home to tons of M5 traffic and ended the day reading the newspaper.

Saturday – another hot one and General Council

Off at 1030 to drive up the M5 to Alcester for the final General Council – yipeee – not my faviourite pastime especially on a lovely summer day!

At least this time all the partners were invited and it was great to see all the team again. We are all in demob mood too.

The meeting began at 2 pm and ended shortly after 5,30 so then it was time for a quick rehearsal of our party piece  for the after dinner ” cabaret” [ the word is used very loosley!]  Excellent eveing being entertained and then a surprise for me- a Presidents award along with several others for my work in 2009/10. Mainly I think on championing the Water Survival Box at RIBI level.

We presented President David with a framed set of signatures and nice words to reflect his leadership over  the year or two.

Friday – 3 June hot once more – keep it coming!

Love this weather as long as I am not working!

Ian here and the guy from the garage door company visited – it looks an expensive one again!:(

Finished reading General Council papers and then got ready for Melksham 45th Charter tonight – should be a warm one

Wonderful event in a beautiful setting near the White Horses. Pre-diner drinks on the terrace before a good meal and speeches. I was honoured to help President Bruce present certificates of appreciation to 3 Rotarians whose service totalled 120 years.

The evening was finshed off with a musical interlude by staff and pupils of Stonar School
